French Boulle clock

An excellent example of a good late 19th century Boulle clock (Tortoishell inlaid with brass)

The French eight day movement has rack half hourly striking on a coiled gong and internal, Brocot Dead-beat escapement. The 5" diameter gilded brass dial is filled with cast decoration and has applied white enamel cartouches with blue Roman numerals. It also has original gothic style blued steel hands and a sunburst pendulum with gilded brass bob.

In a good quality and well proportioned upright case that is smothered with red Boullework, the brass inlay is also chased. It has glazed sides, a full length glazed door and high quality gilded brass mounts, side frames and front door. The inside of the rear door also has Boulle as does the floor. The case is topped with a winged putti atop a globe.

Dimensions:      21" high X 9" wide X 5 1/2" deep.

Circa:                  1890.

Condition:           Excellent and all Boullework is intact.
