Large French Portico clock

Fabulous early 19th Century 'Portico' mantel clock.

This clock being 'Stately Home' quality is the finest we have owned.

The large eight day duration hand-made movement with French Pin Wheel escapement, true Gridiron temperature compensated pendulum with heavy bob, knife edge suspension and safety trough. Striking the hours and halfs a on a bell and contained in a brass drum with hinged circular rear door and heavy quality cast bezel of Acanthus leaf design surrounding the 4 3/4 inch matt ormolu dial with centre engine turning, the maker's plate bearing the name "Lehucher A Rouen", black Roman numerals, outer minute ring and blued steel Breguet style 'Open moon' hands.

Contained in a good, well-figured mahogany Portico style case with bowed and tapered pillars, full top and base with matt ormolu mouldings and capitals decorated with Acanthus leaf design. Also having an ormolu pendulum trough and decorative bun feet.

*This clock would grace any large mantel piece, sideboard or table and is a real eye catcher. If you have ever wanted a truly magnificent French Portico clock then you would find it difficult to improve on this example. This is the French equivalent to the English Regency bracket clock but rarer.

Condition:            Exceptional with no signs of poor work ever being carried out to the movement.
