French gilt Rococo style mantel clock.

Classic Rococo mantel clock on base.

Stock No:   14029

The eight day duration movement strikes the hours and halfs on a well toned bell and is behind a 3 1/2" bowed white enamel dial with Roman numerals, minute ring and outer, Arabic five's. It also bears the retailer's signature which is indistinguishable and has finely pierced gilt hands. Also, an ornately cast hinged bezel with bowed, bevelled glass. The rear also has a hinged bezel.

In a well coloured-down ormolu Rococo style (after eight) good quality cast case. Being well proportioned and fixed to its original matching cast base and having front, top and side, red silk backed brass frets. Also bearing acanthus leaf decoration throughout and topped with a floral finial.

This is the style of classic clock that is copied and sold as contempory clocks today. The style, proportions and heavy quality of this piece is lovely and I currently have it on show in my own home. It would grace any mantlepiece, sideboard, table, shelf or alcove in either a period or modern house and has a lovely toned down appearance. The price below does not include regilding the case but that is a further option.

Dimensions:      14 1/2" high x 10 1/2" wide x 6 1/2" deep.

Circa:                   1870.
