Small French striking mantel clock for sale. In a gold plated ornate brass case. Circa 1880.

A fully gilded and attractive small clock.

The eight day duration, circular 'Movement de Paris' movement with internal Brocot Dead-beat escapement and countwheel striking the hours and halfs on a bell. The movement unsigned but bearing the serial number of 5192.

Behind just a 3" diameter pretty bowed white enamel dial with blue Roman numerals, minute ring, inner ring and outer black Arabic fives. Also, brass winding hole protection collets, gilt brass pierced and carved ornate hands and a cast hinged bezel with beaded surround and bowed, bevel edged glass.

Contained in a small, 24 carat gilded brass case constructed of solid castings. The wide urn finial having a pineapple top, rams head sides and floral swags. The main case adorned with further decoration of floral designs and foliate motifs with the lower section being faceted with canted corners and stood upon four ornate circular feet. The rear bezel having a high dome bevelled glass to accommodate the bell in such a small case.
