5 Glass library clock with striking double fusee movement and in a mahogany case. Circa 1850

A very nice example of an iconic 'Five-glass' library timepiece.

Stock No:   14216

The substantial eight day duration, five pillar, chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, pendulum fixing knob, double nut micrometer regulation adjustment and rack striking the hours on a large saucer bell. Also, the screw retained pillars being nicely shaped.

Behind a 5 1/2" square silvered brass dial with black-filled Roman numerals, minute ring with triangular hour markings, corner Rococo pattern engraving and the centre being signed by the maker "ARNELL (of) EDGWARE ROAD (London)". Also having a chamfered and silvered sight frame set within the glazed front door and blued steel open cruciform hands.

Contained in a well-figured mahogany case with good colour and patina. With locking front and rear doors, thick bevelled glass panels to the top and sides. The top has a small cornice moulding above ripple moulding and the lower portion has a large sweeping Ogee moulding above the top-moulded skirt. Mounted upon four square pad feet.
