A rare and most unusual, exhibition quality, ebonised Vienna Regulator timepiece with blue porcelain panels and matching dial. Circa 1870.

Extremely attractive, probably unique, unusual and rare Vienna wall clock.

Stock No:   14005

The high quality, eight day duration, four pillar, weight driven movement with adjustable 'Graham' Dead-beat escapement and maintaining power. Having a brass cased weight on a crossed-out brass pulley wheel and large brass faced pendulum bob with ebonised wooden rod.

Behind a 6 1/4" diameter patterned blue and white two piece enamel dial, the centre having a blue ground with intertwining vine branches and leaves and a white subsidiary seconds dial with divisions and Arabic fifteens. Separated from the chapter by a gilt brass ring, this having a white ground with black Gothic Roman numerals within cartouches and an outer minute ring. Set within a moulded concave gilt brass bezel. Also having steel spade hands with a counterpoise tail to the minute.

Contained in a good, ebonised fruitwood veneered case with heavily moulded low arched pediment with full porcelain foliate and medallion panel with a blue ground and white decoration. Above a double moulded return with wooden roundels and an inset similar porcelain panel. The trunk with fully glazed arched door and side pillars with carved Corinthian top capitals, twin matching porcelain panels broken with a central wooden roundel, finalised with lower moulded caps and upon a flat plinth with a further panel, front blocks, a concave tapered base and carrying three finely turned finials. The case sides also being fully glazed.

* This is the only clock of this style that I have ever seen and was probably made to demonstrate the maker's capability, it's high quality, rarity and lavishness indicate that it is what is known as 'Exhibition Quality'. The black French polish finish is original and almost 'Piano finish' and none of the seven large panels or dial are damaged. It is unlikely that any more were made because the cost would have been prohibitive. This is the most attractive and unusual Vienna Regulator that I have ever seen and would be suitable for any collection. This clock is more than likely unique.
