Drop-dial english fusee regency wall clock for sale. Made by Frankcom and Mowat, Bath. Circa 1828.

A good, brass strung mahogany Dial clock.

Stock No:   14103

The eight day duration, four knopped pillar movement with gut fusee, tapered plates, long pendulum with Knight's sword bevelling and Anchor Recoil escapement.

Attached by 'Falsedial' to a 12" diameter, bowed iron dial with original off-white, crackled base colour, black Roman numerals, minute ring with triangular hour markings and the maker's name: FRANKCOM & MOWAT (of) BATH above and below the centre. Also having a cast brass bezel with bowed glass and 'Spade' matching blued steel hands.

Contained in a good, well figured and understated mahogany case with narrow convex dial surround, 'Fan' ears to the trunk, brass inlaid panel to the front and a quarter rounded bottom below a gadrooned and ebonised division strip also, a cockbeaded, rounded locking door. The panel and door brass stringing being cornered by inlaid 'quatrefoil' ebony inlay.

* This wall clock is pure class! It is of superior quality both in materials and workmanship and is exceptionally original. The case and dial are not fussy and have just the right amount of decoration, aesthetically it is spot-on in my opinion and is exactly the kind of example that I would advise a collector to buy because it ticks all of the boxes. I would like to add that the photographs do not do it justice.

** Unusually, this clock can be dated extremely accurately because the falsedial is marked "Finnemore & Son" (Birmingham) in paint rather than a stamping. This suggests that it is an early example - perhaps one of the first by these dial makers who worked from 1828 until 1836.

Frankcom & Mowat were in partnership from 1810 until 1835 therefore, though the style of this elegant clock can be dated within the timeline of 1820 to 1840, it can be accurately pin-pointed to 1828 or so. Charles Frankcom and Alexander Mowat traded from 7, Quiet Street, Bath. The original premises still exists and is now a Lingerie shop.
