Library mantel clock for sale. In a small Gothic 'Steeple' style oak case with a chain fusee movement by John Frodsham, London. Circa 1830.

A good original William IV mantel timepiece.

The eight day duration, four pillar, chain fusee timepiece movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. Having a Vulliamy type wide jaw pendulum suspension, the pendulum rod being nicely shaped and faceted and having micrometer regulation and a solidly made pendulum holdfast for transit. The rear of the shouldered movement plates being stamped "FRODSHAM (of) GRACECHURCH STREET LONDON"

Behind a 3 3/4" wide ogee Gothic arch shaped, single sheet silvered brass dial with Roman numerals, minute ring and fine foliate scroll engraving to the infil, the lower portion incorporating a cartouche bearing the repeated signature "FRODSHAM GRACECHURCH ST LONDON". Also having Breguet 'Open-moon' blued steel hands and surrounded by a shaped and canted, silvered sight ring contained within the glazed door.

Contained in a triangular gabled medium oak, four glass case of exceptional colour and patina, with Gothic leafy trail carved decoration to the pediment, flanked by two spire finials. The front angles having opposing 'Barley twist' columns and the door top having a carved fleur-de-lys applied motif. The sides having thick bevelled rectangular glass panels and the moulded base topped with captured scalloped moulding and sitting on four squab feet.

* John Frodsham is recorded as working from 33 Gracechurch Street, London from 1825. He became a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1830. Born 1781, died 1849.

** This is a beautiful little clock of very fine quality. The colour and finish is exceptionally original. There is no damage only small signs of wear and repair.
