Regency arched striking bracket clock by Brockbanks, in a mahogany case circa 1810.

A pleasing and good quality table clock by this well known maker.

The eight day duration, 5 knopped pillar, double fusee movement with solid Dead-beat escapement, shaped plates and rack striking the hours on a rear mounted bell. Also having striking repeat and the backplate is mounted with the Strike/Silent selecting arrow and bears the well-executed maker's signature of "Brockbanks (of) London" in embellished script. Having a long pendulum that can be locked for transit.

Behind a 7" bowed, painted iron dial that is fixed with a brass dial-plate. Also having black Roman hour numerals and outer, Arabic 5's sandwiching the minute ring. Signed "Brockbanks LONDON" and having finely cut steel hands. The bowed glass is set within a locking, chamfered brass bezel of typical Brockbank's style.

Contained in an arched top, slender case that is veneered in what is believed to be a rare and expensive cut of mahogany with a distinctive grain. Below the dial is a recessed, conforming panel and all of the edges of the case are strung in boxwood. The rear has a full and glazed locking door and the sides have arched top brass, fish-scale frets that are backed with red cloth. The all-around moulded plinth sits upon four brass ogee feet.

* John Brockbank began his apprenticeship in 1761 and became a member of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1769. He was established in London and in 1806 he began to work together with his brother under the name ‘Brockbanks’. He is a highly regarded and innovative maker that produced fine clocks and watches.
