A Regency period, striking, Chamfer-top bracket clock by William Vesper of London, having a mahogany case. Circa 1815.

A good looking and very original table clock that is in great condition.

The five knopped pillar, eight day duration, double gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, rack striking the hours on a rear-mounted bell, shouldered plates and a regulator quality pendulum with upper, micrometer regulation, graduated scale and transit bracket with locking knob. Also, repeat pull facility for the strike.

Behind an eight inch diameter bowed, painted iron dial with black Roman numerals, minute ring and having the maker's signature "VESPER (of) LONDON" above and below the centre hole. Also, matching 'open moon' blued steel hands and a cast brass locking bezel with bowed glass.

Contained in a figured mahogany case of good colour, patina and proportions. The plain and stepped chamfer top bears a cast brass pineapple finial upon a stepped platform on a brass plate. The case front has four recessed triangular panels that are framed with quadrant brass and positioned around the dial. The front edges are canted with brass inlay and the trunk has ebonised and gadrooned moulding around the top and bottom. The rear has a glazed and locking door and the sides have ringed carrying handles with cornucopia paterae above red-silk backed, rectangular brass, fish-scale sound frets. The plinth being plain and all supported upon four cast brass 'Ball-and-Plate' adjustable feet. The strike repeating cord runs out through the bottom and has a turned brass pull.

* This is a good plain example of a classic Regency table clock. The condition is superb, well-maintained and it is working very well (please see below price). William Vesper is recorded as working from about 1763 until 1824.
