Ebonised Georgian Bracket Clock with Verge Escapement by George Cooper, London. Circa 1795.

A very original ‘full opening door’ round dial table clock.

Stock No:   14442

The substantial eight day duration, five knopped pillar, double fusee movement with attached pendulum verge escapement and rack striking the hours on a rear mounted, high quality bell. The plain backplate also has a pendulum hook.

Behind a 7” diameter bowed painted iron dial with original base paint, outer Arabic fives, minute track and inner, Roman hour numerals. The centre bearing the name “GEO”(RGE) “COOPER. LONDON” also having paired steel pierced hands and behind a Sheraton style cast brass bezel with bowed glass fixed to the door.

Contained in an ebonised, break-arch case with a cast brass, swinging carrying handle to the top. Also, upper all-round returned moulding over the carcass and the full-size opening front door with lock has the brass bezel mounted over shaped sound apertures with gold coloured cloth backing the brass fishscale frets. The door sides have brass rod beading. The case sides have arched top sound apertures with conforming cloth backed fishscale frets and the rear of the case has a break-arch locking and glazed door. The carcass sits upon a short, all-round plinth with moulded top and in turn, is mounted upon four cast brass splayed Ogee feet.

Dimensions:              15” high (with the handle down) x 11 1/2” wide x 7 1/2” deep at the feet.

Circa:                        1795.

Condition:                  The movement is in full working order and though appears to have been well
maintained, would benefit from an overhaul. The dial is fair and original but with
restorable chipping to the base paint. The case is very good, recently restored and with
both locks present and working with the original single key.

Price:                         £3,250 in it’s present and working condition. A price and timescale for any work
required such as an overhaul and dial restoration by the purchaser can be advised upon
                                  enquiry.
