Contained in a walnut marquetry case with flat top, 'weather moulding', blind fretwork, rising hood, integral hood pillars, convex throat moulding, full length trunk door with oval lenticle and half-round edge moulding, panelled base and straight plinth. The hood door, throat, trunk door, base and plinth having marquetry, the trunk door, base panel and plinth depicting floral and bird style. The base panel and trunk door having light floral marquetry to the surrounding cross-banding and the sides of the trunk and base having strung walnut panels with cross-banding edges. All of the marquetry is of a good colour and on a dark background and all of the mouldings are cross-grain.

Condition:  The clock is restored, the hood top has been repaired (many rising hoods simply fell off and broke as the rebates often split). The base of the backboard and plinth have also been well repaired (probably necessary due to standing on damp floors).  This is for all intents and purposes a good, original clock by an exceptional maker that has been maintained throughout its life of over three centuries.

* Christopher Gould was an exceptional maker and original clocks by him command a high premium. He entered the Clockmakers Company in 1682 and died in 1718. He is recorded as a 'Maker of great repute'.
