Double fusee, striking, english dial wall clock retailed by Hamilton & Inches, in an oak case. circa 1890.

A substantial and attractive oak wall clock.

The substantial, double chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and rack striking the hours on a large coiled gong that is mounted to the back box for resonance.

Unusually, behind only an 11" diameter, white painted iron dial with outer minute track, Roman hour numerals and the centre being signed for the retailer "HAMILTON & INCHES" and "EDINBURGH". Also having blued steel spade hands and a spun brass, glazed bezel.

The oak case is of excellent colour and patina with a turned dial surround, rounded bottom with a cockbeaded locking door and two large side doors with silk-backed metal sound frets.

*Hamilton and Inches were renowned as retailers of fine quality items and opened their doors in Edinburgh in 1866. Usually these clocks have a 12" diameter dial and it is unusual for a striking example to have a smaller one. This is a very original clock that has had little if any work carried out to it throughout its life.

Condition:                   The movement is extremely dirty but working and striking. The hands would benefit
                                   from re-blueing. The dial is good but there are areas of paint that should have a fixative
                                   applied. The case is in excellent restored condition throughout with no damage or 
                                   losses. All of the hinges, toggles and the lock are sound and in good condition.

Cost:                          The fully restored price will be £4,250 however, this clock can be purchased in working
                                   order and in its present condition for £2,350 - any work required  by the purchaser can
                                   be advised upon application but an overall saving will still be made.
