Miniature silver carriage clock in an engine turned case. Hallmarked 1899.

A very pretty and good quality timepiece.

Stock No:   14257

The eight day duration, French made rectangular movement with its original, fully jewelled, Ratchet-toothed, side lever, platform escapement.

Behind a 1 1/4" diameter, circular white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and minute ring also, extremely finely pierced, ornate gilt hands.

Contained in a substantial solid silver case with hinged top 'bow' pattern handle and piano hinged rear door. Having rounded edges throughout and line bordered, engine-turned weave pattern panels. The rear door having an unused plain monogram oval panel. The dial aperture having a plain bezel, bow glass and deep sight ring. Mounted upon four squashed bun feet. The handle, door and base having a London Assay mark for 1899 and the base having the retailer's details "B. Finnigan. Deansgate. Manchester" also, the silversmith's mark "CD".

* B. Finnigan were very good and successful jewellers. They eventually had premises in Manchester, Liverpool and London. They were known for dealing in high quality items and this clock reflects that - the case is substantial and not thin as they often were, it is also not Repousse (pressed decoration) but has been worked with a cutter. This is a very good example and has the benefit of pre-dating 1900. It would make a lovely and enduring gift.

Circa:                                         1899.
