17th century and later, English Lantern clock with double fusee movement. Originally Circa 1690.

A very aesthetically pleasing chamber clock.

Stock No:   14299

The substantial, eight day duration, five pillar, double chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. Rack striking the hours on the large top-mounted bell and also having micrometer pendulum regulation and locking bracket.

Contained within an anonymous London made brass case of typical style. The bell 'spider' being sprung within the four top corner urn finials and surmounted by a matching fifth. The front of the three matching pierced frets is florally engraved and the dial plate has engraved corners and symmetrically engraved tulip design to the middle with a circular central tulip.

The 6 1/2" diameter chapter ring has large Roman numerals, inner quarter ring and Tompion style, Cruciform half hour markings.

Stood upon four ball feet and the case now having substantial side and rear opening brass doors that are very well cut. The dial has matching and pierced blued steel hands.

* I purchase these converted clocks because the work carried out to them was not to deceive but to improve. Large amounts of money were paid to have these conversions carried out which meant that the clock ran for eight days instead of the usual 12 to 24 hours, the timekeeping was vastly more accurate and the clock did not have to be hung high on a wall because of the ropes and weights but could be placed on a table.

** The quality of the work carried out during this conversion is higher than usual, everything is 'Just so'! The patina of this example is worth noting as it is particularly good and resembles light bronze. This is a very handsome clock and of heavy weight. Though anonymous, it was probably made in the 'Vagaries'.
