Double fusee striking english dial wall clock in an oak case. circa 1890.
A simple but attractive oak wall clock.
Stock No: 14389
The substantial, double chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and rack striking the hours on a large coiled gong.
Behind an 11" white painted iron dial with outer minute track, Roman hour numerals and the centre being signed for the retailer "HAMILTON & INCHES" and "EDINBURGH". Also having blued steel spade hands and a spun brass, glazed bezel.
The oak case is of good colour and patina with a turned dial surround, rounded bottom with a cockbeaded locking door and two large side doors with silk-backed metal sound frets.
*Hamilton and Inches were reknowned as retailers of fine quality items and opened their doors in Edinburgh in 1866. Usually these clocks have a 12" diameter dial and it is unusual for a striking example to have a smaller one. This is a very original clock that has had little if any work carried out to it throughout its life.
Dimensions: 14 3/4" wide x 7 1/4" deep
Circa: 1890.
Condition: The movement is extremely dirty but working and striking. The hands require
re-blueing. The dial is good but there are areas of paint that should have a fixative
applied. The case is good but the surround has shrunk which is usual and could have
the opened joints filled, the rounded bottom has areas of missing veneer and the left
side door is missing, the door key is also missing.
Cost: The fully restored price will be £3,600 however, this clock can be purchased in working
order and in its present condition for £1,750 - any work required by the purchaser can
be advised upon application but an overall saving will still be made.
